THANK YOU
To all those Voters that supported
the Independence
Millage for Open Space and Water Protection.
We, the IGG group, wish to
thank you for your support and far-sighted recognition of the importance
of saving some of our Green space for future generations and to enhance
our Quality of Life. Although the
millage failed we know you demonstrated a community understanding and
commitment to environmental concern and preservation.
There are two areas you can
pursue as alternatives to the millage :
- Support the NOHLC with your monies and
involvement as a way to protect some of our lands through easements
and gifts. This group has a
long history of involvement with our township and currently protects
several parcels of land here.
Visit their Kimball property on Perry Lake Rd just North of Clarkston Rd for an example of
what can be accomplished and what a pristine natural area can be
like.
- Learn about the Township Master Plan and
especially the Greenways section of that plan where some key goals
are laid out. There is no
funding to make this plan happen and we, the public, need to track
the actual actions and member attitudes that impact that plan from
both the Planning Commission and Township Board. The meetings of the Board are
Available on our Community TV and worth watching if you can’t attend
Board Meetings.
